The updated fourth edition of this successful encyclopedia contains 40% more high-quality content from over 300 international experts in four volumes! Comprehensive, succinct, and unrivaled, it includes all the knowledge scientists need on homogeneous, heterogeneous and biochemical catalysis in easy-to-use, compact entries for over 11,000 keywords in alphabetical order.
In this way it explains briefly the important terms for every aspect of catalysis, whether biocatalysis, homogeneous catalysis, heterogeneous catalysis, or such related topics as spectroscopy or analytical methods. These also include abbreviations, brief biographic entries of important scientists who have worked in catalysis, trade names, important catalytic processes, named reactions, and other important keywords in the general field of catalysis.
To round this work off, many of the keywords are illustrated and include German and French equivalent terms.

The 4th edition of “Catalysis from A to Z” follows
six years after the third, and once more it
contains many new keywords and cross-references,
thus reflecting the progress and completion
of heterogeneous, homogeneous, and biocatalyses.
Numerous new colleagues joined the
staff of authors and contributed to the success of
this edition, summing up to 11000 keywords,
more than 25000 references, 5000 figures, and
many tables: Catalysis literature is fast-growing
and requires a skilled staff for rapid compilation.
Besides all the novel terms gathered and compiled
in the last years, another focal point was
the completion of mentioning by name the catalyzed
reactions, of the vast list of ligands and
more precise (and more modern) definitions, to
extend the cross-references to make better use
of this encyclopedia, and to make a careful
choice and prioritization of the patents to be included.
Together with an extended number of
schematic flowschemes of industrial processes
and its updating, we hope that the importance of
large-scale, economical applications of catalysis
as a basis for chemical and intermediate processes
is thus underlined.
Regrettably, the editors are under a curse as far
as heterogeneous catalysis is concerned: as the
second editor for that branch of catalysis we had
to replace (for reasons of effectivity) Martin
Muhler by Hans-Werner Zanthoff of Evonik
Degussa at Marl/Germany, who will bring in his
own expertise and directions. Once more, some
